DONAVET: BIOSECURITY SOLUTIONS – KEY FACTORS FOR SUCCESS IN LIVESTOCK FARMING

As livestock production continues to develop toward greater industrialization and larger-scale operations, improving herd and flock health through nutrition, antibiotics, and routine vaccination is essential. At the same time, proper implementation of biosecurity, cleaning, disinfection, and decontamination measures plays a critically important role. These measures help prevent and control the introduction of pathogens and other harmful biological agents from external sources, thereby reducing the risk of disease transmission and outbreaks, particularly serious infectious diseases such as African swine fever (ASF) in pigs and avian influenza in poultry. As a result, they contribute to stabilizing animal health, improving productivity, and providing a strong foundation for successful livestock production.

THREE DISINFECTANT SOLUTIONS (DONACIDE – DOVIDINE – BKC 50%) FOR EFFECTIVE BIOSECURITY CONTROL

Farm Disinfection – Proactive Biosecurity Protection for Livestock Farms

When disinfectants are used at the recommended concentration and applied correctly to surfaces, equipment, vehicles, and other areas requiring disinfection, such as transport vehicles, livestock equipment, areas inside and around the farm, walkways, feed storage areas, and other surfaces. Depending on the active ingredient, disinfectants may inactivate microorganisms through mechanisms such as disrupting cell membranes, denaturing essential proteins and enzymes, or damaging genetic material.

Proper disinfectant application: Using the correct dilution and spraying method helps reduce the pathogen load present on farm surfaces, prevent pathogens from entering from outside, and limit infection and spread that could lead to disease outbreaks.

However, each area and disinfection purpose may have different requirements. Each active ingredient has its own characteristics and spectrum of activity; therefore, selecting the appropriate product helps farmers take a more proactive approach to pathogen control.

DONACIDE – A SOLUTION FOR ASF PREVENTION AND CONTROL

Formulated with 15% Glutaraldehyde and 10% Benzalkonium Chloride, together with excipients and proprietary technology developed and applied by Donavet, Donacide provides broad-spectrum activity and supports the control of multiple groups of pathogens, including viruses, bacteria, and fungi, in livestock environments. In particular, at a 1:200 dilution, Donacide has been demonstrated to be effective in inactivating ASF virus, thereby helping prevent and control the transmission and spread of African swine fever.

In recognition of these contributions, Donacide was honored with the “Vietnam Golden Agricultural Brand 2025” award, organized and presented by Agriculture and Environment Newspaper.

DOVIDINE – A SOLUTION FOR CONTROLLING PATHOGENS THAT CAUSE INFECTIONS INSIDE THE FARM

Containing 10% Povidone Iodine, an iodophor with a broad spectrum of activity against most groups of pathogenic microorganisms, the product has a favorable safety profile and can be used flexibly for disinfection in livestock production.

Dovidine is recommended for disinfecting livestock equipment and veterinary instruments, as well as for disinfecting open wounds resulting from procedures such as tail docking and castration, along with infected or purulent wounds (dermatitis, arthritis, etc.). In particular, Dovidine is recommended for use inside livestock housing areas to control, reduce, and eliminate Gram-positive bacteria (Streptococcus spp., Staphylococcus spp., etc.) that cause purulent infections such as arthritis, dermatitis, and metritis. In addition, Dovidine also helps control Gram-negative bacteria that cause porcine pleuropneumonia (Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae – APP) and polyserositis in pigs caused by Glaesserella parasuis.

As a result, the product serves as an additional solution in routine farm hygiene and animal-care programs.

BKC 50% – AN EFFECTIVE SOLUTION FOR LIVESTOCK FARMING, ESPECIALLY POULTRY

Its main active ingredient, Benzalkonium Chloride 50%, is a positively charged surfactant belonging to the quaternary ammonium compound group and has strong activity against many bacterial, viral, and fungal pathogens. BKC 50% is particularly effective against enveloped viruses such as Newcastle disease virus, avian influenza virus, infectious bronchitis virus, and porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV). It acts by disrupting the viral lipid envelope and altering viral surface proteins and glycoproteins, thereby impairing the virus’s ability to attach to and enter host cells and ultimately causing inactivation.

In poultry production, BKC 50% is particularly suitable for disinfecting hatching eggs and eggs intended for storage; disinfecting hatchery facilities (incubators, hatchers, egg trays, equipment, etc.); and disinfecting livestock farm areas (housing, entrance gates, equipment, transport vehicles, etc.). When used at the correct concentration and according to proper procedures, BKC 50% helps limit cross-contamination, protect the quality of hatching eggs and chicks, and safeguard overall flock health.

HOW TO USE DISINFECTANTS CORRECTLY

  1. Thoroughly remove organic matter from surfaces to be disinfected.
  2. Ensure that surfaces to be disinfected are dry.
  3. Use the appropriate active ingredient for the intended purpose.
  4. Use the recommended dilution when preparing the spray solution.
  5. Apply the disinfectant evenly, ensuring that the surface is thoroughly wetted (1 liter of diluted solution per 5-10 m²).
  6. Allow sufficient contact time between the disinfectant and the pathogens.

Clean, dry surface – Correct dilution – Thorough wetting – Sufficient contact time
