2. Vinh Long: Cattle herd decreased by 6%
As of September 2024, the cattle herd of Vinh Long province had 76,250 heads, down 6% (or down 4,897 heads) compared to the same period of last year. The herd continued to decrease because the selling price of live cattle was still low, while natural food sources were scarce, and the price of animal feed was high, so herd repopulation was slow.
The price of live cattle remained at 86,000VND/kg and unchanged compared to the same period of last year. With the average production cost of 60,000-65,000 VND/kg, the farmers currently only make a profit of 21,000-26,000 VND/kg, or break even.
According to the statistics of agricultural industry, in recent times, the quality of the cattle herd has been maintained and developed in the direction of crossbreeding with foreign beef breeds for meat. In the coming time, the agricultural industry will continue to strengthen the inspection and close monitoring of the disease situation in livestock and poultry, proactively implement preventive measures, early detection, and timely treatment to prevent widespread spread, strengthen propaganda on disease prevention and control measures, biosafety and disease-safe livestock farming, good care and raising, regular disinfection and vaccination of herd.
