Pig prices tend to decrease slightly as supply increases
From the beginning of April 2025 to now, the price of live pigs nationwide has been stable and has tended to decrease by 5-8% compared to the peak in the first week of March 2025. It is forecasted that prices will continue to decrease slightly in the coming time. On May 7, the price of live pigs in the northern provinces remained stable at 66,000-67,000 VND/kg, unchanged from the end of last week.
The provinces: Bac Giang, Yen Bai, Nam Dinh and Hanoi city continued to maintain the level of 67,000 VND/kg; Hung Yen, Thai Binh, Tuyen Quang maintained the level of 66,000 VND/kg.

In the Central Highlands, it remained stable, fluctuating between 67,000 - 74,000 VND/kg. In the South - the region that used to have the highest price in the country - some localities, such as Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Ca Mau, adjusted down 1,000 VND/kg compared to yesterday and were purchased by traders at around 73,000 VND/kg; the provinces: Dong Nai, Long An and Ho Chi Minh City maintained the level of 74,000 VND/kg.
According to traders, the market is quite quiet because consumption after the holiday has not clearly recovered. By the end of April 2025, the total pig herd in the country is estimated to have increased by 3% over the same period last year thanks to effective control of African Swine Fever. Some localities have seen strong increases: Binh Dinh increased by 9.5%; Nghe An increased by nearly 4%; Phu Tho increased by 3.9%.

To ensure pork supply in all situations, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment requires localities to control diseases well, especially African Swine Fever. The Ministry recommends that farmers should not rush to restock their herds because of rising pork prices; it is necessary to apply high technology to farming models to increase productivity, improve product quality and prevent and control diseases, ensure environmental hygiene, and contribute to sustainable livestock development.
On the part of the authorities, efforts should be made to implement solutions to contribute to stabilizing pork prices in particular and food products in general, while ensuring supply and meeting consumer demand at reasonable prices.
